A significant part of the B Corp assessment is how a company treats its employees, in a section called “Workers” within the B Impact Assessment. At Steelhead, culture is something both our leadership team and employees (aka Steelheaders) take very seriously. Our culture is tightly bound by our eight values, and each Steelheader plays a role in keeping it authentic as possible.

Keeping Culture First

Companies that put culture first are winning. According to Deloitte, organizations that place their culture at the forefront experience a 33% increase in employee satisfaction and engagement levels. By fostering a positive and inclusive work environment, these companies have create a powerful sense of belonging, leading to motivated and dedicated employees who go above and beyond for their organization.

At Steelhead, we firmly believe that a strong culture is the driving force behind our success. We prioritize open communication, celebrate diversity, and encourage collaboration every step of the way.

It’s Not Just What We Do, It’s How We Do It That Matters

Happy People Do Better Work

“Individual commitment to a group effort -- that is what makes a team work, a company work, a society work, a civilization work." – Vince Lombardi.

According to an Aflac Workforce study, employees working for companies with wellness initiatives or programs report that they like their jobs more. It’s reported that 87% of B Corps have wellness programs to support their team's physical and mental health. Great wellness programs are just good business at this point.

Along with great benefits and excellence in diversity, equity, and inclusion - Steelhead offers programs centered around creating fulfilled work and home lives. Below is the pogramming around financial, physical, and emotional wellness we offer and hope it inspires how you can get your program off the ground or help elevate it.

Examples of Employee Wellness Programs

Financial wellness is a way we help reduce stress and offer continued learning to our employees. In addition to financial benefits like a living wage and 401k plan, we have a finance coach that comes in to talk with employees. Lisa Chastain coaches Steelheaders on best practices, improvements and how to live happy money lives.

Next up, physical and emotional wellbeing. We believe that our best work comes when we feel our best. To facilitate healthy lifestyles, Steelhead offers “snack happy” where healthy snack options are provided free of charge in our break room, wellness challenges, meditation, and a team sport available to those interested. Similar to financial wellness, we’ve found that physical activity and well-being make our employees more productive and engaged while they’re at the office. Team sports and interaction also allow for another level of bonding and let employees that might not typically work together share new experiences.

"I love our Wellness Program. I’ve gained SO MUCH from meeting with our coaches - they’ve literally changed my life for the better and helped me show up both at work and in my personal life, as a more whole, integrated, happier self.," said Andrew Childers, Business Development Director.

We believe that everyone has the opportunity to reach their highest potential and we consider a long-term view of each of our employees. For professional development, we offer each person performance reviews, goals and annual meetings tied to their performance. Steelheaders also have the opportunity to meet one-on-one with any member of our Executive Leadership Team for mentoring and to talk through their career goals and plans.

We’ve also found that our Give Happy and Sustainability committees also help develop Steelheader’s sense of self and wellness. We provide opportunities for employees to volunteer, contribute to causes they care about and participate in values-aligned activities. Give Happy’s mission is to give all Steelheaders the power to give back to the community, utilizing company monetary resources, expertise, and skills.

"The Give Happy Committee has ignited a flame within me, where passion, compassion, and joy of giving back to our team, families, and community merge. It is an honor to serve alongside like-minded individuals. We have identified that by coming together, we can make a tangible difference. With every act of kindness, hour volunteered and supply donated, we create a ripple of hope that knows no bounds. I am happily a dedicated member of a compassionate collective, driven to uplift lives and help our community thrive.," said Danielle McLemore, Senior Account Manager.

Steelhead believes that offering wellness benefits like these improve our employees lives, which improves their work. Investing in these areas has improved our company culture, employee retention and engagement. We’d encourage all companies to take a look at what employees are asking for with regards to wellness and try to implement similar programs.  And as always if you have any questions please don't hesitate to reach out.
